Just Blogging

It's been awhile since I've added anything so here we go....Well, I guess the big news around our house is my daughter Ashley's engagement! Wedding plans are in full swing for a June 13, 2009 wedding. Of course, everone has their opinion on where it should be, which florist to use, etc., but the final decision is up to her. Our family is very close, so everyone is all jazzed about the upcoming event. Next, on to those Indians. What a great series with the Yankees...finally we won. I personally can't wait until the next game. What an exciting team to watch! I am sad summer is over, it's my favorite time of the year. Can't wait until next year, I'll be counting down the days until those lazy days of summer are here again. Oh, finally, Buster has been a good boy lately, imagine that!

Thing 23.....Finished!

I have completed the 23 steps and I am so proud! I debated about even doing this and now I am so glad that I did. I have learned so much I can't even begin to tell you. Summarizing some of the highlights are Flickr, which I probably won't use in the future, but didn't even know that a sight like that existed. I am not too crazy about putting personal photos online. I was so impressed with Bloglines and all that it had to offer. I had no idea before I started this what a RSS feed even was, and now I couldn't be without it! For fun things, Online generators were a blast to experiment with. There were so many sites I explored, some good and some bad, but overall, I really enjoyed working with it. Of course, Youtube was fantastic. It amazes me how much is on it. Work related, I am not sure how much of it I will need to use. I think being a clerk, Microsoft word and excel would be useful. In conclusion, I would participate in something like this in the future if it was offered. It was a great learning experience for me and I loved it.

Thing 22

Ok, I registered with NetLibrary and checked out the YMCPL Link. I must say that E-books are not for me. I guess I am old-fashioned and I prefer to have my book in my hand to read it. I really don't even like Books on CD for the same reason. When I read, I enjoy relaxing and the page-tuning of a great book! On the plus side, I can see how people love it and I am glad there is something out there for everyone.

Thing 2 Con't

While reading through everything to make sure I have completed everything, I noticed that I never commented on the 7 1/2 things that were hardest and easiest. I think without a doubt that the hardest for me is "View problems as challenges". I like for everything to go smoothly and I hate bumps in the road. To me problems just take too much time to figure out. The easist for me is "accept responsibility for my own learning". I am the type of person who take responsibility for anything that I do or do not do.

Thing 21

I looked at several podcasts and subscribed to a Scrapbooking and card making one that had a RSS feed to my Bloglines. I am sure I will look at it often. The thing that I have learned about this exercise is that I have been listening to podcasts for a long time...i just didn't know that they were called Podcasts!! Oh well, you learn something new everyday, I guess.

Thing 20

I was already familiar with YouTube. We have seen many of the video clips at home on our computer. I think it is amazing that there are videos for almost everything you would want to see, from way back when to just a few minutes ago. Things hit Youtube in a matter of minutes. You are always "in the loop" if you check daily.! Another winner.

Thing 19

I loved this exercise. I literally spent hours looking at all of the different sites. I went to the Web 2.0 awards (short) list and went through most of them. It is so interesting that you get hooked. One thing leads to another and before you know it so much time has passed. I especially liked the medstory and miniwidgets, but all of them were awesome. The best part of this was that I actually knew what they were talking about. If I went to this at the beginning, I would not have had a clue. This is a great learning experience. A+

Zoho writer

Well, I created yet another account, this time with Zoho writer and it was painless. Zoho writer is very easy to use. I like how all the icons appear and it is a useful thing to have even though most people use microsoft word. I kind of like this better. I like the set up of this. I can't believe how much there is out there that I didn't know about.smile

Thing 17

I created a PLCMC account and blogged about my favorite TV show and singer. Also, added by blog name to Favorite Blog . I spent some time reading about some favorite things that were blogged about. I guess I am just nosy and like that kind of stuff!

Thing 16

I can definitely see how this is a useful tool for many people. Teachers can share new ideas and for people in the business world it could be a valuable tool. Slideshows, charts, etc. can be constantly changed and updated. I went on to see how it worked and created a WIKI for my daughter's wedding (nothing elaborate!) just to see if I could do it! http://busterlove.pbwiki.com/Wedding+List?full_access=6f18G4F9ug&l=S

Things 13, 14 &15

OK del.icio.us was suprisingly easy to understandd and operate. Easy to follow along and I think this is more useful than Rollyo which still confuses me. This one i actually get.
Technorati to me was not too useful . I took the tour and it as kind of interesting. I do not want to post blogs so others can search and really don't care what others have to say.
I agree completely about "Iceberg". Libraries are constantly changing and the need to have a huge collection of dated material seems useless when most of it can be gotten online. Aslo, the roles of Libraries are changing. They are becoming gathering places and are the center of the community, and that is a very good thing.

Things 10, 11 &12

This was fun, fun, fun...Generator blog was something I have never done before. It took awhile to get the hang of, but it was not too hard. FT toys was probably my favorite and will probably use it in the future.

Library thing was just ok. Kind of boring.

Rollyo was the most confusing for me so far. I don't see myself using it too much. Bloglines held my interest more and I think I will use it more.

Thing 8 & 9

Well, I created Blogline account and it was easy. Looking through the subscriptions that had RSS feeds was interesting. Also, I never knew what the RSS meant on some of the sites I visit, and now I do.

Also, I put the 3 Library feeds on my bloglines and have more than 10 other feeds. Done with this challenge.

Things 5, 6 & 7

Ok, Flickr is fun. It's amazing what you can find on it. I'm not sure how many personal pictures I would put on mine. There is so much you can do and it is not too hard. I'm thankful that I work at a branch that people are willing to help you and answer questions.

I guess what really surprises me is the amount of technology out there that I don't even know about. I'm happy to be doing this because I am having a blast learning the different things.

Things 3 & 4

Set up my own blog, (my daughter who is 21 cannot understand why her mother is blogging!) and it was ok. Asked questions to those who knew and it was actually pretty good. Also, did thing 4 and registered with the team. On my way to the next part.

Things 1&2

Well, I guess I should get started. I watched the video and I am going to try to do this. It may take awhile, but I think I can do it. Also did thing #2 and it was pretty good......on to 3 & 4.
